Hi Everyone
My name is Ben Barratt, and I am a paediatric physiotherapist located in Adelaide, South Australia. I am the director of Inclusive Movement Physiotherapy, and have extensive experience working with children and adults living with a disability in clinic and community settings, and on both land, and in aquatic environments. Prior to becoming a qualified Physiotherapist, I worked as a swimming instructor at State Swim, and as a support worker for over 8 years. From my experience across all fields, I have recognised the need, and benefits of personalised hydrotherapy and ‘learn-to-swim’ programs for children and adults living with a disability, and have witnessed how aquatic environments can assist the development of an individual’s physical, emotional, social, communication, and sensory development.

My Story
Throughout my time as a physiotherapist, disability support worker, and swimming teacher, I have been fortunate enough to work with children and adults in group settings, and in 1:1 settings. From my experiences, I have recognised the lack of services which cater for every individual’s needs, and the limited number of services which take a holistic approach in helping children and adults develop their skills and confidence in aquatic environments. I have also recognised the need for a service which is family-centred, and focuses on building strong therapeutic relationships with each participant in order to assist children and adults express their individual brilliance in aquatic environments, and thrive in life.
As a result, I decided to create Inclusive Movement Physiotherapy. I believe that every child and adult deserve to be given the opportunity to learn how to swim in an environment that is inclusive and most importantly, fun! My mission is to educate and empower children, and their care givers on how to feel safe in aquatic environments, and also provide them with life-long skills that can be used with friends and family at the beach, at swimming carnivals, on school excursions, and in swimming competitions. Children and adults should not feel held-back because of their disability, instead, they should feel empowered because of their ability!
